    Adaptive Parameters

    Self-Test passes cert calibration results to interface firmware via Adaptive Parameter files. They are read from and written to the drive independently, and stored in the Flash and in system zone on the media. The adaptive parameters include:

    -
    RAP – Read and Write Adaptive Parameters
    -
    HAP – Head and Media Adaptive Parameters
    -
    SAP – Servo Adaptive Parameters
    -
    CAP – Controller Adaptive Parameters

    RAP
    ---------------------------
    Full name is ‘Variable Bit Aspect Ratio (VBAR) Read/Write Adaptive Parameter File ’.

    * RAP includes many sub-files:
    * Drive Configuration File
    * VBAR Configuration File
    * Zone Format Budget Parameters File
    * Channel Parameters File
    ---------------------------

    HAP

    * HAP consists of the portions of adaptive parameters pertaining to Heads/Media requirements.

    * Currently, it captures two sub-files: the Adaptive Fly Height (AFH) sub-file, and the AFH Adjustment sub-file.

    * The HAP is a black box to the RAP super file. Space is set aside for the HAP within the contiguous RAP. The HAP is not separately downloadable.

    * The overall space allocation is 7 kilobytes (7168 bytes), to account for current utilization, plus Dual Heater and DETCR requirements, plus room to grow.

    ---------------------------

    SAP and CAP

    * SAP is used to store Servo Adaptive Parameters like Chrome Table, AGC Table and Mrbias Table….SAP is defined and maintained by servo group.

    * CAP contains information describing the firmware, world wide name, product family information and other information needed for proper configuration of the firmware. CAP definition can be found in the following file.
